How To Sabotage Your Workout – Episode #1
Posted on 14. May, 2009 by bradsemp in Brad's B.S.
Just the other day I popped out of my office and down the street to our gym (here’s a plug to Lifetime Fitness – excellent gym – excellent business model) to hit a 9:15AM cycling class (also referred to as SPIN class).
What happened was a series of 3 events that by the end of the cycling class had more than just my legs spinning…..my head was spinning in part with confusion and with simple disbelief.
You see, once you’re able to activate SC (Systemic Consciousness) in your own mind, you’ll view everything in this world differently.
SIDENOTE: How do you know when you’ve activated SC? You’ll just know. The same way that you knew you were in love
Anyways, let’s take a look at this real-life example of systemic thinking – NOT!
I drive into the Lifetime parking lot and see a man about ready to get into his car. This particular parking spot was close to the entrance and so I pulled up….waiting patiently for him to enter his car and back out. What seemed like an eternity passed…..as my blood pressure began to rise I watched as the man had entered his car only to sit there fumbling around with something. Just as I was about to give up and walk away he starts the car, shifts into reverse, and backs out of the parking spot.
NOW – guess what he had spent several minutes to fumble with?
Yep, you guessed it…..a cigarette.
DISCLAIMER: I am going to apologize now if my comments offend you as a smoker. I have nothing against you – in fact, I love you as a person. But if you’ve followed me closely enough you can guess that smoking just doesn’t fit into my model of an optimal life system. Sorry.
So kudos to this gentleman who spent his time and energy to make it to the gym. He should be commended for it. But are you kidding me? Is he working out just so he can inhale additional nicotine into his lungs and feel justified in doing so?
MORAL OF THE STORY: Working out is one activity that should be part of everyone’s daily routine. Doing so simply speaks to your understanding of a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Spending time to workout is an activity that helps to optimize your body system. But what about the act of smoking on the heels of a workout? Does this enhance the body system? Or sabotage it? You make the call…..
